Married to the Law: married to Grace (1)

Don’t get married unless you are first married to Christ. Don’t get married to anyone who is not married to Christ. Jesus says to a woman by the well of Jacob: “You have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband.” (John 4:18). This statement is intriguing. How can a woman marry five husbands? Did they all die one after the other? How can the husband she is now married to not be her husband? Did she marry someone else’s husband? Who then is the woman’s true husband? Jesus’ words are spirit and they are life. (John 6:63). The true husband of the woman is Jesus himself: “For your maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; he is called the God of the whole earth.” (Isaiah 54:5). Accordingly, most Christians get married three times. The first marriage is to the devil. The second marriage is to a husband or a wife. The third marriage is to Christ. Others even get married four, five times or more. Bu...

Naked Attraction gets brutal when contestant awkwardly only compliments rival on 'nice skin'

Yes, it's the weirdest show on telly. But things got even weirder when two rivals had to compliment each other...   Naked Attraction viewers were laughing even more than usual when one contestant could only offer the compliment “nice skin” to a rival.  In a recent episode of the show - in which would-be lovers pick out a partner based only on their naked genitalia - a contestant called Melissa made it to the final with another woman called Jordan, and potential partner Charles had to pick one of them to go on a date with.  They were both asked to compliment each other. Jordan said: “She’s got amazing teeth and blue eyes”.  But Melissa paused for a while, and could only muster: “"She's got... really nice skin..." Charles then told the pair his final choice: "This is right hard. It's going to have to be Jordan."  When Melissa left the show, she quipped: "It's been a nice experience but if I went on a date with Charles all I would have in...

2019: Order army to release your certificate to INEC, PDP urges Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to show proof of his integrity by presenting his academic credentials, “if he has any,” to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and put to an end the controversy trailing his school certificate. The party also tasked the Commander-in-Chief to fulfil his obligation like other Presidential candidates, instead of bugging the commission with affidavits. The PDP in a statement issued by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan yesterday said while its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has submitted his educational and other relevant documents to INEC, President Buhari is rather seeking ways to short-circuit the system, instead of complying with set rules.   The statement read: “A situation where President Buhari has been dodging the certificate issue raises huge questions of integrity, which demands that he makes available his credentials, or apologize to Nigerians, if he has none, so that ...

We are seeing beyond others — Udom Emmanuel

….I am not playing politics with development, Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor He was approaching the zenith in his professional career when the bug for public service caught him. Those in the know say it was not an easy decision. It took blackmails, solicitations and all manner of appeals from the then governor of his state, Godswill Akpabio for Mr. Udom Emmanuel to leave his safe position as executive director at Zenith Bank in 2013 to go home to enter the public service in his native Akwa Ibom State.  Five years on, and with significant transitions, body movements and the political reconfiguration of the state, Mr. Emmanuel is now the lead in a quiet revolution going on in the state.  Given the fanfare that went with the relative performance of his predecessor, the quietness that has gone with the even more significant impacts of the Emmanuel administration in the state was an issue when the governor sat down with a group of newsmen after a tour of some parts of the sta...

Traditional ruler warns herdsmen against cattle grazing in Nasarawa

Agwada (Nasarawa State), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Obagu, the traditional ruler of Agwada in Nasarawa State, has urged herdsmen to eschew cattle grazing in farmlands to avert clashes with farmers in the interest of peace.  Sadiq-Obagu, who is the Osu Agwada, made the appeal on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in his palace in Agwada.   Sadiq-Obagu, who particularly bemoaned the destruction of farms in the neighbourhood by cattle that usually grazed at night, called for a change of attitudes, saying that peace was priceless and non-negotiable. He equally called on the farmers in the area not to take the law into their hands, no matter the extent of the damage done to their crops.  He said that the aggrieved farmers should instead report their grievances to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.  “No nation or society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, the incessant farmers-herdsmen conflicts and other security challenges facing...

Economist’s 2019 prediction: We’re vindicated – Atiku

ABUJA – The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization, APCO, has described the victory prediction for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 elections by the Economist Magazine as a vindication of its stand that Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, deliberately twisted the narrative with his recent claim that some foreign media were not favourably disposed to Atiku’s candidature. The international magazine recently predicted victory for Atiku saying his pledge to curtail joblessness and revive the economy gives him an edge over President Buhari with a few months to the elections. In a statement issued Friday in Abuja, the campaign organization said “As the Economist rightly states, the issues in 2019 are popular frustration over the rise in joblessness and poverty (two of the biggest voter concerns) on Mr. Buhari’s watch, as well as growing insecurity in central Nigeria.  “No other candidate has the capacity to address these chal...

Nigerians to Buhari: Show us your WAEC, other academic credentials

Reactions have continued to trail President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim again that his academic credentials are with the Nigerian military. President Buhari failed to provide his academic credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as one of the requirements to qualify to contest elective positions in the country.  President Buhari, in an affidavit sworn to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, explained why he failed to submit his academic credentials as a precondition to being eligible to contest the 2019 election.  According to Buhari, “I am the above named person and the deponent of this affidavit herein. All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form, APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit.”  President Buhari had, during the 2015 election which he eventually won, presented INEC with the same excuse, saying the military is in possession of h...

FG, Labour and the new minimum wage

THE organised labour has issued a statement saying it would embark on a nationwide strike on Tuesday  November 6, 2018, over the impasse on the new minimum wage with government. It accused government of being disingenuous with the whole process. I would advise that the federal government calls Labour to table and resolved this matter once and for all by reaching a reasonable comprise and save Nigerians yet again from another bout of untold hardship, and the country’s fragile economy from continuous hemorrhage. Resorting to the old-fashion tactics of intimidation, blackmail and trickery have never worked; it would only make matters worse. This is against the backdrop of the recent release of a White Paper by government on the no work, no pay rule of engagement. The timing of this White Paper is ominous.  Why now that Nigerian workers are agitating for a pay rise?  The government should know that the Rights of Nigerian workers are enshrined in the tr...

Alarm over Chinese “human flesh” drugs

IT sounds like a tale from a fictitious horror novel or movie, but unknown to millions of Nigerians they could easily be consumers of Chinese drugs made with human flesh!   Scientists confirm that a combo of drugs can prevent cardiovascular diseases, heart attack and sudden death It would have been difficult to believe this shocking news if the main food and drug regulation agencies such as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Nigerian Standards Organisation (SON) and the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) had not confirmed it. In fact, it was the South Korean Customs Service which reportedly tipped off the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), which in turn notified the above-mentioned Federal agencies, including the Nigerian Postal Service (NPS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). According to the NIA: “The South Korean Customs Service, on 30th September 2018 revealed that it (had) seized 2,751 Chinese drugs/cap...
